The No. 29 University of Redlands women's tennis team took on the No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the semifinal of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament on Friday. Despite a hard-fought win at No. 2 doubles, the Bulldogs' momentum ended there, as they suffered a 1-8 loss to the Athenas.
After CMS won at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, the Maroon and Gray clawed its way back into the match when sophomore Karen Kobayashi (Sappora, Japan) and junior Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA) nabbed an 8-7(6) victory at No. 2.
However, the Athenas quickly rebounded with straight-set wins in the first three singles matches to come off the court, resulting in the 5-1 decision.
Redlands (8-12) holds out hope for a possible at-large bid and/or individual selections to the NCAA Division III Championships.
