The 2019 season continues for the No. 29 University of Redlands women's tennis team as the Bulldogs embrace the opportunity for an upset in the semifinal of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament.  While making back-to-back appearances at the event, Redlands enters this year's tournament as the fourth seed and faces top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Friday, May 3, at 4 p.m. in Claremont.

The Bulldogs (8-11) strive to turn things around from their first meeting with the Athenas, which took place on April 12. 

Senior Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) competes at the top of both lineups for the Maroon and Gray.  In doubles, she and first-year Halle Martinucci (Burlingame, CA) own a 10-7 mark, including a 4-2 performance against conference foes.

Sophomore Karen Kobayashi (Sappora, Japan) leads the team with her 13-6 singles record, primarily from the No. 3 spot.  After going 5-1 in the last six matches, she looks to build upon that momentum in Friday's win-or-go-home showdown at CMS. 

In doubles, Kobayashi and junior Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA) earned an 8-5 mark on the No. 2 court. 

CMS (21-1) went undefeated in conference action to secure the top seed.  Catherine Allen and Caroline Cox combine forces as the Athenas' top doubles duo that went 16-1 in dual matches.   In singles, Allen produced a 12-1 mark at the No. 1 slot, while Cox played primarily at No. 5, where she earned an 8-1 showing.  Rebecca Berger also impressed with a 13-0 effort, with 10 of those coming at No. 3.  Allen, Cox, and Berger each secured All-SCIAC honors earlier this week.

The second semifinal includes No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and No. 3 Caltech.  The semifinal winners face off on Saturday, May 4, for the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
