Bulldog Women’s Soccer to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness at Cal Lutheran Match

The University of Redlands women’s soccer team will host its inaugural “Breast Cancer Awareness Night” on Oct. 24 when the Bulldogs face Cal Lutheran University at 7 p.m. on Farquhar Field.

Upon entry, fans will be handed a pink ribbon, which commemorates the fight against breast cancer.

T-shirts are available for purchase in advance and also will be sold at the game. Students can buy the shirts for a discounted $7 price while the general public can obtain them for $10. In addition, bottled water will be purchasable throughout the contest for $1. All proceeds of t-shirt and water sales will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Prior to the start of the match, the Rev. John Walsh will conduct a moment of silence.

“The University of Redlands women's soccer program is happy to support such a worthy cause as the fight against breast cancer,” Head Coach Suzette Soboti said. “It is a disease that each of us may be faced with in some manner in the future or have faced in the past. The more awareness and people involved in the search for the cure, the sooner it will be found. We are proud to wear pink, and we hope you will come and support the cause with us on October 24th!”

The rate of new breast cancer cases has increased by just more than one percent each year since the 1940s, and about 192,370 American women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, as cited by the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Directions to the University of Redlands can be found at http://www.goredlands.com/Fan_Central/Maps_directions. Farquhar Field, which sits on the northeast end of the campus, is located on Brockton Avenue.
