Redlands Women's Track and Field posts seven wins | Beats Caltech and Cal Lutheran at SCIAC No. 1

PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Track and Field team opened their 2023 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schedule at the SCIAC Multi Dual hosted by Caltech. The Bulldogs went 2-1 against Caltech, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS), and Cal Lutheran University (CLU).

Redlands' dual scores were 124-31 against Caltech, 115-37 versus Cal Lutheran, and their lone defeat coming against Claremont-M-S 78-85.

The Maroon and Grey had a great day with seven event victories and 22 top-three finishes as they again dominated in the sprints and jumping events.

Sydney Harness (Henderson, NV) had a fantastic day, winning the 100m (12.39) and the 200m (25.49) and was on the winning 4x100 relay team (48.40). Like some of her teammates, this was her first outdoor meet of the season after competing in a pair of indoor meets at Northern Arizona University (NAU) in February.

Finishing as the runner-up in the 100m, 200m, and helping the 4x100 relay team win was Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, CA) who ran times of 12.73 and 26.66 in the two sprint events. She too was competing outdoors for the first time this season.

In the mid-distance events, the Bulldogs got a third-place finish from CeCe Matteson (Seattle, WA) in the 400m (1:04.89). Her time gives her a new personal best.

Fellow pacific northwest native, Chloe Bullock (Hood River, OR), won the 800m and took second in the 1500m with times of 2:21.05 and 4:48.83. Her 800m time is a 5.32 second improvement on her time indoors at NAU a month ago. She also was a member of the second place 4x400 relay team. This was the first outdoor competition for the Cross Country All-American.

Ella Bachmeier (Rancho Capistrano, CA) added three podium finishes going as the runner-up in the 100m Hurdles (15.21) and a third place finish in the 400m Hurdles (1:07.92). She was also one of the four members of the second place 4x400 relay team.

A pair of first-years in Elee Faulkner (Blaine, WA) and Elisabeth Eichinger (Yucaipa, CA) gave the Bulldogs three athletes who came in the top-three in the two hurdle events as they were second and third in the 400m Hurdles (1:05.25) and 100m Hurdles (17.66). Faulkner's time was a 1.40 second improvement from the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet two weeks prior.

In the 3000m Steeplechase Eve Mavy (Thayne, WY) took second in her first collegiate steeplechase with a time of 12:40.64.

Redlands' 4x100 relay team won in 48.40 and their 4x400 relay team took second with a time of 4:06.45. The 4x100 team consisted of Maigan Adams (Los Angeles, CA), Ackerman, Harness, and Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA). The other relay team included Bachmeier, Matteson, Faulkner, and Bullock.

After dominating the sprints, UR then took home five of the six top-three spots in the Long Jump and Triple Jump with the wins coming from Ciara Aw (Shoreline, WA) in the Long Jump Aw qualified in this event for the NCAA Indoor Division III National Championships this coming weekend and Adams in the Triple Jump. Aw's winning jump was her first, a mark of 5.43m/17' 9.75" while Adams winning jump was her third at 10.77m/35' 4".

Adams and Aw swapped places with runner-up finishes in their non-winning event, posting marks of 5.12m/16' 9.75" in the Long Jump for Adams and 10.34m/34'2.75" in the triple for Aw. Not to be missed, though, was Christen Wiley (South San Francisco, CA) who was third in the triple with a first jump of 10.24m/33' 7.25".

In the throwing events Timony Sherry (Shoreline, WA) won the shot put with a winning third throw distance of 11.29m/37' 0.5". Noelle Chavez (Yucaipa, CA) took second as she took a top-two finish in the discus for the second time this season. Chavez got off to a slow start, fouling out on her first three attempts, but she came back on her final throw to finish as the runner-up.

For Aw, she will travel to the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in Birmingham, Alabama for the first time in her career this coming Friday and Saturday, March 10-11 as she competes in the Long Jump.

The rest of the Bulldogs will either get the weekend off or head to the Oxy Distance Carnival this Saturday, March 11. Their next full meet is the Redlands Invitational inside Ted Runner Stadium on Friday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m.
