Bulldog Cross Country holds their own at Redlands Invite

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Cross Country teams opened up 2022 Saturday hosting the annual Redlands Invitational, with the course consisting of Ted Runner Stadium and Farquhar Field.    

The field included Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Cal Poly Pomona, Caltech, Riverside City College, LA Harbor, San Bernardino College, Cerritos, and Crafton Hills.  Despite the tough conditions the men came out strong finishing 3rd overall out of nine teams with an overall time of 1:40.29.  For the women they took 4th overall out of six teams with a group time of 1:35.04.     

Men

The Bulldogs posted an average team time of 20:05 on the 6K course. Leading the Maroon and Grey was Enrique Verschoor (Mar del Plata, Argentina) who ran a career best time of 19:36.0.

Other notable finishers for the Bulldogs included fellow seniors Riley Lathrop (Honolulu, HI) and Rogelio Salcido (Beaumont, CA) who came in 28th and 34th place respectively. Lathrop ran a 19:57.0, a new career best time and Salcido with a 20:10.0.  Rounding out the rest of the Top-40 finishers included Ronan Byrne (Portola Valley, CA) who clocked in a 20:19.0, which placed him 36th, Nolan Brown (La Crescenta, CA) (38th – 20:27.0) and Brandon Farnsworth (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) (40th – 20:32.0).   

Women

On the women's side they took fourth and had an average time of 19:00. Leading the way with a Top-10 finish was sophomore Chloe Bullock (Hood River, OR) who just missed setting a new career best in the 4.5K by 1.1 seconds, clocking in with a 17:43.5.

First-year Eve Mavy (Thayne, WY) ran her first collegiate race, placing 34th, and ranked 10th among first-year runners, and 6th among division III first-years. Following Mavy in 35th and 36th place was Sheriane Greene (Grass Valley, CA) and Sailor Brown (San Diego, CA). Greene and Brown posted times of 19:10.3 and 19:18.6.

Overall, the ten Bulldogs who scored, five of them are first-years and eight are underclassmen, giving Redlands a strong foundation for the future.

The Bulldogs have two weeks to prepare for the UC Riverside Invitational, which will take place on Saturday, September 17 with the first race slated to begin at 7:45 a.m.
