Biola Runners Win Individual Honors at Redlands Cross Country Invitational

Individual harriers from Biola University prevailed at today's University of Redlands Cross Country Invitational, while the Biola women and the Cal Baptist University men took home team medalist honors.

Leading a talented crew of Biola runners, Kelsey Gasner recorded a time of 16:31.80 on the 4500m Run to win the women's event. Her teammates rounded out the top six runners of the race with sub-18-minute showings to cruise to first place in the standings.

On the men's side, Biola standout Ryan Richert completed the 6k run in 19:11.70 but his team settled for third place overall. CBU's men put together a solid performance as a team, which included five finishers in the top 10 as highlighted by the second- and third-place showings of Sergio Rodriguez (19:16.50) and Mitchell Moore (19:20.80).

The host Bulldogs looked to junior Emily Canales (Redlands, CA) to lead the women to a second-place team finish by coming in with a time of 18:03.90, just behind the slew of Biola competitors. Competing in just her second career race, senior Kelsey O'Callaghan (Salt Lake City, UT) completed the course in 18:21.40 to take 13th as the second-fastest Bulldog. In addition, the Maroon and Gray gained solid contributions from seniors Heather Mayer (Spring Valley, CA; 18:31.00) and Katie Ostrinski (Riverside, CA; 18:33.40), who finished 15th and 16th, respectively.

For the Redlands men, senior Jeremy Kalmus (New Orleans, CA) registered a time of 20:03.20 to finish 14th overall. Senior teammate Alec Fillmore (Riverside, CA) broke into the top 25 at the meet with a 20:38.20 performance. Junior Duncan Ashby (Goleta, CA) closely followed with a time of 20:53.90 for 24th overall.
