The University of Redlands hosted its annual Redlands Cross
Country Invitational on Sept. 13, and the host teams made a strong
showing in a field of formidable area schools.
Redlands’ women’s team, which is coming off of a
third-place finish in the Southern California Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (SCIAC) last year, finished fourth in the team
standings while a young men’s team fielded a seventh-place
showing.
The men ran the NCAA standard 8K while the women ran the NCAA
standard 6K.
Junior Stephanie Mera (Redlands, CA) placed the highest out of the
Redlands women, taking eighth in the field of 130 female runners
with a time of 24:22.29.
Five Bulldog runners finished within 20 seconds of each other.
Sophomore Heather Mayer (Spring Valley, CA) ran a 24:59.26 time and
took 21st freshman Fiona Wilhelm (Boise, ID) clocked a
25:01.32 and placed 24th, freshman Camila Alvarez (San Bernardino,
CA) turned in a 25:09.95 time and finished 27th, junior Kelly
Luck (Boulder, CO) clocked a 25:12.56 and took 30th and
sophomore Katie Ostrinski (Riverside, CA) ranked 32nd with a
25:19.11 standard.
On the men’s side, junior Jake Baechle (Aurora, OH) finished
16th with a 27:47.13 time, placing the highest of the Redlands
men's runners. Freshman Aaron Minsk (Puyallup, WA) took 26th with a
28:24.79 time, sophomore Jeremy Kalmus (New Orleans, LA) came in
45th (29:03.04) while sophomore Alec Fillmore (Riverside, CA)
followed close behind with a 51st-place 29:14.89 time.
Both teams travel west to San Bernardino next Saturday to compete
in the Cal State San Bernardino Invitational.
