University of Redlands Women's Water Polo Releases 2022 Schedule

2022 University of Redlands Women's Water Polo Schedule

REDLANDS, Calif. – University of Redlands Women's Water Polo Head Coach Chris Gielen released his 2022 schedule Wednesday, which includes three tournaments and nine games inside the Thompson Aquatic Center.

In 2021 the Maroon and Grey only played six games due to COVID-19, going 2-4,1-3 SCIAC.  They did upset the No. 2 seed in Chapman University to qualify for the SCIAC Tournament finale.  The offense averaged 7.5 goals/game, won 64% (16-9) of their sprints and finished the year with a .274 shot percentage.  Redlands has not completed a full season since 2019, when they finished 14-16, 7-7 SCIAC.  Since then they have gone 6-13, 3-5 SCIAC in back to back limited seasons.

Both Holly Kvanvig and Katrina Nielsen, who were All-SCIAC performers and ACWPC Honorable Mention All-Americans from 2021 are both returning for the 2022 season.  As the top two scorers for the Bulldogs, Kvanvig and Nielsen accounted for nearly half of the team's goals with 20 of the 45 coming between them.  Kvanvig tallied 13 points on offense and drew six exclusions on defense to rank first among the team in each category.  Nielsen impressed with her .600 shooting percentage by converting nine of her 15 shots into goals.  She also shouldered the sprint responsibilities and won all 15 of her opportunities.

This year the Bulldogs will host the annual Bulldog Invite on Saturday, February 19, which will include six programs (Cal Baptist, Whittier College, Pomona-Pitzer, UCSD, and Toronto).  The other two tournaments on the schedule will be the CBU Lancer Joust Tournament (January 29) and the Gary Troyer Tournament (March 4-5).
