Two Bulldogs Named to All-SCIAC Women's Water Polo Team

It was announced earlier today that senior attacker Katelyn Jenkins (Bellevue, WA) and senior goalkeeper Kelly Grosswendt (Newbury Park, CA) represent the University of Redlands on the 2019 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Women's Water Polo Team. After winning the SCIAC All-Sportsmanship award last season, Jenkins earns a spot on the First Team. Grosswendt shouldered the load between the posts for her first All-Conference award as a Second-Team member.

This talented duo played a critical role in the team's best overall record and SCIAC mark in Head Coach Chris Gielen's five-year tenure.

In 14 conference games, Jenkins led the Bulldogs with 30 goals and 11 assists for 41 points.  She also tallied 10 steals and two field blocks in a fine defensive effort. One of her strongest all-around performances came on the road in a solid, 12-4 victory over Occidental College. In the win, she led the team with five goals and dished out an assist while nabbing a game-high two steals. In the final two games of the season, she completed her four-year career with four goals in each game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Whittier College.

Grosswendt starred in the cage as the starting goalkeeper in all 14 games for more than 483 minutes. She tallied 127 saves and stopped more than 53% of the shots she faced for a 7.35 goals-against average. In her first SCIAC game of the season, Grosswendt registered 10 saves in a 10-8 victory over the University of La Verne. About a week later, she tallied 15 saves in a 20-5 win over Caltech.  Her defensive prowess also led to 22 steals in conference action, as highlighted by an eight-steal showing against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
