Prominent Pair Represents Redlands Women's Water Polo on All-SCIAC Teams

It was announced earlier today that sophomore center Kolby Kahahawai (Kailua, HI) of the University of Redlands women's water polo program landed on the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Second Team. In addition, senior defender Chum Alvarez-Zakson (Santa Monica, CA) was selected to the SCIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

This comes as Kahahawai's first All-Conference nod as she led the team with overall 50 goals in 2017. During the dual-match portion of the SCIAC season, she tallied 16 goals but went on to unleash eight more in the four games during the SCIAC Championship Tournament for a grand total of 24 in conference play. Kahahawai served as the offensive orchestrator while also providing a strong presence on defense.  Her talents extended on both ends of the pool amidst her physically demanding position.

Head Coach Chris Gielen stated, "We truly believe Kolby is an invaluable part of the future success of our program."

In addition, Alvarez-Zakson represents the Bulldogs on the All-Sportsmanship Team for her positive contributions and contagious spirit.

"Chum was the spark plug of energy we needed every day to do our best at practice. She was always positive and, as one of our captains, was responsible for motivating our players and setting a good example of the type of competitive behavior we want in our program. Chum represented Bulldog Athletics very well and we will miss her," added Gielen.

The All-SCIAC teams are nominated by and voted upon the head coaches of each member school.  For a complete list, please visit the SCIAC website.
