Redlands Women's Water Polo Prevails over Macalester in Quality Battle

The University of Redlands women's water polo team maintained its busy schedule of competition with a non-conference showdown against Macaletser College (MN) Scots on Wednesday under the lights at the Thompson Aquatic Center.  After taking an early 3-2 lead, the Bulldogs remained in front through the final whistle en route to an important 8-5 win.

Sophomore center Kolby Kahahawai (Kailua, HI) initiated Redlands' offense with a goal at the 7:37-mark of the first quarter.  After Macalester immediately answered with a netter of its own, the teams traded scores through the early part of the second stanza to make a 2-2 game.

However, sophomore utility player Rachel Nelson's (San Juan Capistrano, CA) first score of the contest sent the Bulldogs into the halftime break with a 3-2 advantage.

The teams continued their defensive battle in the third, as the Maroon and Gray's netter was the only offensive result of the stanza.

Sophomore goalkeepers Allison Totzke (San Bernardino, CA) and Katelyn Jenkins (Bellevue, WA) played a significant role in keeping the Scots off the board throughout the game by providing six saves collectively.

During the fourth frame, Macalester cut the deficit to one on two occasions, but Redlands continued to press with key goals by Kahahawai, sophomore attack player Breanna O'Dea (Rowland Heights, CA), freshman attack player Olivia Allen (Santa Monica, CA), and junior attack player Michelle Na (Mercer Island, WA) en route to the 8-5 win.

Redlands (6-13) jumps right back into action on Thursday, March 16, when it hosts George Washington University (DC) at 7 p.m. at the Thompson Aquatic Center.
