U of R Women's Water Polo Falls Twice on Opening Day of Claremont Convergence

The University of Redlands women's water polo team traveled to nearby Pomona-Pitzer Colleges to compete in the annual Claremont Convergence on Friday, taking on Sonoma State University and the University of La Verne in non-conference action.  The Bulldogs lost both games in a tough outing, 3-13 and 6-15.

Against Sonoma State, Redlands struggled offensively, scoring only three goals in the third quarter.  Senior utility player Caitlyn Freeman (Brentwood, CA), senior utility player Taylor Christie (Anaheim, CA), and freshman utility player Kolby Kahahawai (Kailua, HI) each found the back of the net for the Maroon and Gray.

Senior goalkeeper AC Lopez (Northridge, CA) and freshman goalkeeper Carmen Gardner (San Jose, CA) shared time between the pipes, recording five and four saves, respectively.

Redlands squared off with the La Verne Leopards in the late game and scored twice as many goals.  Christie led the Bulldogs with a hat trick, while freshman attack player Sami Walker (Taylorsville, UT), freshman attack player Sabrina Scoggin (Ashland, OR), and Kahahawai each fired off netters.

No statistics for saves were available at the time of posting.

Redlands (0-8) returns to the Claremont Convergence on Saturday, March 5, to take on Caltech and Concordia University – Irvine at 10:20 a.m. and 2:20 p.m., respectively.  Both of these games will be played at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges' Axelrood Pool.
