The University of Redlands women's water polo team battled it out with fourth-seeded Whittler College in the third-place match of the 2014 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament on Sunday.  Although the fifth-seeded Bulldogs put up a valiant effort against the home team, the squad fell short of the upset by a score of 6-10.

Redlands initiated the scoring midway through the first period when sophomore driver Annie Kinney (Newport Beach, CA) found the back of the net.

However, the Poets evened the count with their only goal of the stanza with only five seconds to go in the stanza.

During the second period, Whittier rattled off two scores before extending its lead to five less than three minutes into the third frame.

Redlands continued to fight but struggled to create any significant offensive momentum en route to the season-ending loss.

Kinney tacked on another goal for the Maroon and Gray, earning the only multi-netter performance of the team.  In addition, freshman center Madison Andres (Princeton, NJ), sophomore driver Taylor Christie (Anaheim, CA), senior center Jaci Cochrane (San Bernardino, CA), and freshman driver Grace Cochran (Danville, CA) each contributed a score.

Redlands finished the tournament one spot higher than its seed, earning a 5-6 SCIAC record.  Overall, the Bulldogs put together a 13-21 season while taking on many high-caliber foes.
