Bulldog Women’s Water Polo Players Recognized on ACWPC All-America Teams

Senior center Sam Greenawalt (Riverside, CA) and senior driver Claire Quinn (Fresno, CA) of the University of Redlands women’s water polo team earned Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) NCAA Division III All-America honors for the 2009 season while senior center Jen Caron (San Dimas, CA) garnered All-America Honorable Mention laurels, according to an announcement made today by the ACWPC.

Greenawalt was tabbed as a First-Team All-American, marking the second occasion that she has graced one of the two All-America teams. A potent offensive threat for the Bulldogs in 2009, she notched team-highs in goals (74), assists (29) and field blocks (15) while also recording 30 steals and 35 ejections drawn. Greenawalt finished her collegiate career ranked among the greatest talents to don the Maroon and Gray as she ranks among the program’s top 10 all-time in goals (255, fourth) and ejections drawn (173, second). This 2009 First-Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) recipient garnered Second-Team All-America honors following the 2008 campaign.

For the first time in her career, Quinn gained recognition as a Second-Team All-American. Quinn helped pace the Bulldog offense with 59 goals and 28 assists while also accumulating 46 steals, 20 ejections drawn and three field blocks. Just one month ago, she earned her first-ever All-SCIAC nod as a member of the Second Team.

In addition, Caron was chosen as an ACWPC Honorable Mention. Caron led the team this season in ejections drawn with 42.

Redlands (16-20, 5-5 SCIAC) enjoyed a nine-win improvement over its 2008 record and capped off its season with a runner-up finish at the Collegiate III Women’s Water Polo National Championships. For the 15th time in 16 years, the Maroon and Gray finished among the top four in the SCIAC as the team wound up in fourth.
