Redlands Volleyball Enters Win Column beating Marymount 3-1

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Volleyball team picked up their first win of the season with a 3-1 win over visiting Marymount.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-6 lead after winning three-straight points off Bella Thornbury's (Grass Valley, Calif.) serve. After some back-and-forth the Bulldogs took set one 25-23 thanks to a Marymount error.

After facing an early 11-10 deficit in the second set, the Bulldogs won 11 of the next 12 points and took a 21-12 lead. The Mariners managed a 5-0 run, but Makayla Sorenson (Lakewood, Calif.) finished off the set with a kill and gave the Bulldogs a commanding 2-0 set advantage.

The third set was a challenge from the start with the Mariners winning three of the first four points, but the Bulldogs were able to even the set at seven and 12 points-a-piece. 12 all was the last time in the set the Bulldogs were even as they dropped 10 of the next 12 points and eventually dropped the set, 25-20.

In a second attempt at closing out the match the Bulldogs won the first five points and worked around a lull when the Mariners were able to even the set at six as the Bulldogs won 11 of 15 points and maintained the lead throughout the rest of the set and got match point from Katie Allbery (Spokane, WA).

Kiki Stradford (Lake Forest, Calif.) led the Bulldogs with 10 kills, Thornbury had 21 assists, and Laural Pittman (Granada Hills, Calif.) had 17 digs.

The Bulldogs return to Currier as they open the Redlands Min-Tournament against versus Providence Christian on Saturday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m.
