The University of Redlands women's volleyball team capped off the 2016 season with a tough three-set loss to the No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match on the road.  The Bulldogs struggled to find their rhythm against the Athenas and fell by scores of 12-25, 11-25, 14-25.

Redlands faced early deficits in every set, with the third frame providing the closest battle.  The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead off of back-to-back kills by sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Burdick (Sun Valley, CA).  A CMS service error and a kill by freshman outside hitter Christina Casey (Sherwood, OR) led to a 4-4 tie, before sophomore setter Jackie Andrade's (Seattle, WA) ace gave Redlands a slight 5-4 advantage.

The Bulldogs hung tough through the next few points, with freshman middle hitter Sammi Tafoya (Granite Bay, CA) adding to the attacking power.

But the Athenas quickly regrouped for an elevated offensive effort and the eventually sweep of the visiting team.

Redlands completes the season with a 13-14 overall record for the Bulldogs' best showing since 2010.
