Redlands Volleyball Stumbles against No. 7 Cal Lutheran

The University of Redlands women's volleyball team traveled to Thousand Oaks on Saturday evening to take on the No. 7 Cal Lutheran University Regals in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match-up. The Bulldogs fought hard in the second set, but unfortunately came up short by scores of 13-25, 20-25, 14-25.

The Maroon and Gray got off to a slow start in the first set but regained confidence and clawed its way back in the second. While trailing 10-18, the Bulldogs went on a six-point run that began with a great block by senior setter Ellie McLeod (Redlands, CA) and freshman middle hitter Sofia Olsson(Cupertino, CA). Sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Burdick (Sun Valley, CA) fired off two service aces to put them within striking distance at 15-18. Redlands put five more points on the board, but Cal Lu found its rhythm and put the second set away, 20-25.

Freshman outside hitter Christina Casey (Sherwood, OR) led the team with seven kills and Burdick finished the night with four service aces. Freshman libero Lauren Lux (San Jose, CA) held down the back row with eight digs.

The Bulldogs (11-10, 2-9 SCIAC) look to bounce back when they take on the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens on "Grow The Game Night" in Currier Gym on Tuesday, October 18. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
