The University of Redlands women's volleyball team hit the road on Tuesday evening for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown against the Occidental College Tigers in Eagle Rock.  Despite out-playing the home team in nearly every statistical category, the Bulldogs came up short of repeating their results from the teams' September 16 meeting in a 19-25, 19-25, 23-25 decision.

The Maroon and Gray kept things close in every set, with its best opportunity coming in the third.  The team gained set point off of a kill by sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Burdick (Sun Valley, CA).  Unfortunately, the team struggled with errors and was unable to close it out.

With freshman middle hitter Sofia Olsson (Cupertino, CA) leading the Bulldogs' attack, Redlands notched 38 kills at a pace of .200, as compared to Occidental's 34 at .185.  Olsson racked up an outstanding hitting percentage of .500 on 10 kills off of 16 swings.  Burdick and freshman outside hitter Christina Casey (Sherwood, OR) combined for 17 kills, while senior setter Ellie McLeod (Redlands, CA) orchestrated the offense with 31 assists.

Defensively, Redlands recorded 53 digs, which was five more than the Tigers, as freshman libero Lauren Lux (San Jose, CA) tallied a match-high 17.  The visiting team also notched six block assists, with Olsson and Burdick each providing two.

Redlands (11-8, 2-7 SCIAC) looks forward to playing in front of the Currier faithful on Friday, October 14, when it squares off against the University of La Verne at 7 p.m.
