U of R Volleyball Drops Match to UC Santa Cruz

The University of Redlands volleyball team welcomed the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz to Currier Gym on Thursday for a non-conference match.  Despite showing great emotion and spurts of brilliance, the Bulldogs came up short in three sets, 14-25, 18-25, 18-25.

Junior outside hitter Marisa Gile (Yucaipa, CA) led the Bulldog attack with 10 kills, while junior middle blocker Ashton Martin (Redlands, CA) added seven of her own.  In addition, junior right-side hitter Kimberly Nevarez posted a solid hitting percentage of .429.

Defensively, Martin contributed three block assists, while freshman libero Abigail Hickman (Phoenix, AZ) supplied 10 digs.

Sophomore setter Ellie McLeod (Redlands, CA) distributed 21 assists.

For Santa Cruz, Elena Echeverria knocked down a match-high 18 kills.

Redlands (1-14) returns to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition on Friday when it hosts the Caltech Beavers at 7:30 p.m. in Currier Gym.
