The University of Redlands volleyball team traveled to Chapman University on Tuesday night for the teams' inaugural Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) meeting in history. Unfortunately, the outcome favored the Panthers, as they swept the Bulldogs by scores of 29-27, 25-22, 25-20.

Despite the straight-set loss, the Bulldogs put up a valiant fight throughout the match. The Maroon and Gray broke a seven-all tie in the opening stanza by unleashing four consecutive points, two of which came off of kills from junior outside hitter Morgan Buckner (San Rafael, CA). She finished with a team-high 10 put-aways on the night while hitting .300.

Redlands maintained its lead until Chapman rallied to tie it up at 22 apiece. From here, the Panthers never trailed en route to the hard-fought 29-27 decision.

After falling behind from the third point of the final set, the Bulldogs clawed their way back late in the match to even the score at 20 apiece. However, the Panther offense strung together five straight points to seal the Chapman victory.

With Buckner's help, the Bulldogs recorded a combined hitting percentage of .227, as freshman middle blocker Ashton Martin (Redlands, CA) put up a solid .400 mark with eight kills and no errors. Junior setter Alisha Cornick (Hollister, CA) dished out 27 assists, while junior libero Brittney Overgaag (Palm Desert, CA) returned to the starting rotation as a defensive stalwart with a match-high 20 digs.

Chapman (9-2, 3-0 SCIAC) gained double-digit kills from three players, including senior outside hitter Ashleigh Gideon (Torrance, CA) with 15. Junior libero Carleigh Mueller (Orange, CA) supplied 19 digs and junior setter Corrine Ostrovsky (Simi Valley, CA) served as the Panthers' ball-distributor with 52 assists.

Redlands (3-5, 0-3 SCIAC) strives to halt its recent skid when it heads to Riverside for a non-conference rematch with the La Sierra University Golden Eagles on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
