Bulldog Volleyball Falls to No. 22 Cal Lutheran on Senior Night

The University of Redlands volleyball team took to the court for one last time this season as it celebrated Senior Night in Currier Gym against No. 22 Cal Lutheran University.  Despite the festive pre-match presentation that highlighted the careers of seniors Megan Phillips (Vista, CA), Kirby McCord (Huntington Beach, CA), Heather Anthony (Redwood City, CA), Chelsea Arcaris (Vista, CA) and Jackie Hamilton (Loma Linda, CA), the Bulldogs faltered against the high-powered offense of the Regals in straight sets, 21-25, 18-25, 17-25.

Redlands mustered a team hitting percentage of .128, compared to the Regals' solid performance of .245.  In addition, the Maroon and Gray struggled on defense, managing 10 less digs than Cal Lutheran.

The Bulldogs gained a team-leading nine kills from Hamilton, who also posted 10 digs.  Freshman outside Morgan Buckner (San Rafael, CA) supplied eight kills, while Phillips and McCord recorded four apiece.  Arcaris stepped into the libero role after the first set and posted a team-leading 24 digs.

The Regals completed their conference championship run with a 14-0 undefeated record.  Tonight they looked to senior outside hitter Megan Thorpe (Saugus, CA),junior right-side hitter  Casy McWhirk (Roseville, CA)and senior middle blocker Allison Kerr (Wildwood, MO) to provide double-digit kills at 11, 11, and 16 respectively.  CLU also boasted five players with 10 or more digs. 

Redlands (18-11, 6-8 SCIAC) wraps up the regular season with tonight's loss, finishing sixth place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).
