Extending its win streak to four, the University of Redlands
volleyball team defeated Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Friday night and
moved to two matches ahead of second-place Cal Lutheran University
in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(SCIAC) standings. After succumbing to the Sagehens in the opening
set, the Bulldogs cruised to a 3-1 victory by scores of 21-25,
25-15, 25-16, 26-24.
The Maroon and Gray looked to junior middle blocker Megan Phillips
(Vista, CA) to lead the offense with a .310 hitting percentage off
of 12 kills, three errors, and 29 attacks. In addition, she
patrolled the net with two solo blocks and five block assists.
Senior outside hitter Ali Massei (San Carlos, CA) and junior
outside hitter Jackie Hamilton (Loma Linda, CA) each put down 14
kills, while contributing 14 and 16 digs, respectively. Senior
Kelina Smith (Kurtistown, HI) distributed 46 assists and senior
libero Lauren Harding (Altadena, CA) continued to provide stellar
defense for Redlands with 30 digs.
The Bulldogs face off against Occidental College (12-13, 4-6 SCIAC)
at 3 p.m. today.
