Redlands Volleyball Loses to No. 18 Cal Lutheran University

Faced up against one of the toughest teams in the region on Oct. 7, the University of Redlands volleyball team came up just short, losing in three sets to No. 18 Cal Lutheran University by scores of 22-25, 16-25 and 23-25.

The trio of junior outside hitter Katy Douglass (Roseville, CA), sophomore outside hitter Jackie Hamilton (Loma Linda, CA) and sophomore middle blocker Megan Phillips (Vista, CA) energized the Bulldog offensive with seven, six and five kills, respectively.

Junior setter Kelina Smith (Kurtistown, HI) posted a double-double, notching 14 assists and 10 digs, while Douglass and sophomore libero/defensive specialist Chelsea Arcaris (Vista, CA) provided nine digs apiece.

Using her presence and size on the front line, freshman middle blocker Emily Capozzoli (Poway, CA) earned a match-high three block assists.

Megan Thorpe led the Regals with nine kills while Lindsey Benson assisted on 29 kills in her setting duties. Elicia Hildreth kept the rallies alive for Cal Lutheran, posting a match-high 12 digs.

Redlands (9-9, 4-3 SCIAC) returns to Currier Gym on Friday for a doubleheader. The team takes on non-conference Elizabethtown College (PA) at 2 p.m. before competing in its eighth Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match of the 2008 season against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
