Down 2-0 to Whittier College on Oct. 3, the University of
Redlands volleyball team looked down and out, losing the first two
sets 17-25 and 22-25. The Bulldogs fought from behind and
eventually emerged victorious, winning the final three sets by
scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 15-11.
Sophomore outside hitter Jackie Hamilton provided a lights-out
performance for the team and had one of the finest matches in her
Bulldog career. She recorded 23 kills and put together a .377 kill
percentage. Her 23 kills ties her for sixth place in the
program’s all-time list of most kills in a match.
Causing problems for the Whittier front line, junior
libero/defensive specialist Lauren Harding (Altadena, CA) posted
three solo blocks.
Junior setter Kelina Smith (Kurtistown, HI) assumed the setting
duties for the majority of the match and accumulated 33 assists on
the evening.
Joining the 30-dig club was sophomore libero/defensive specialist
Chelsea Arcaris (Vista, CA) as she posted 31 digs. Hamilton and
Smith also posted double-digit figures in digs, boasting 15 and 14,
respectively.
Sara Araiza of Whittier compiled the match high in assists, setting
the ball on 42 kills, while Keisha O’Brien posted a
match-high 25 kills.
Redlands faces rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges tomorrow night
at 6 p.m. in Currier Gym.
