REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team ended their 2023 regular season schedule Sunday with a lopsided 8-1 win over UC Santa Cruz inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs have clinched a spot in the upcoming SCIAC Tournament, set to be played April 28-29.  They are waiting for the rest of the SCIAC schedule to be completed to determine their seeding and opponent.

Redlands ends their regular season on a three match-winning streak, while improving to 9-5, 4-3 SCIAC.

It was a quick start for the Maroon and Grey sweeping doubles and then taking five of six singles.  Madison Sherwood (Las Vegas, NV) and Mia Goldstein (Ann Arbor, MI) picked up the first point at No. 3 winning 8-3.  Kendall Bolock (Yucaipa, CA) and Olivia Rockwood (Park City, UT) followed with an 8-5 win at the top spot and Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) and Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 2.

The momentum carried over into singles with UR picking up two quick points from Bolock at No. 1 who took down her opponent 6-1, 6-0 followed by the clinch coming from first-year Goldstein at No. 5 who surrendered just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

The Banana Slugs ended the run grabbing a point at No. 4.  O'Brien dropped the opening set 6-4 and was down 3-1 in the second when she was forced to retire due to injury.  This however did not create a comeback opportunity for UCSC as the Bulldogs would come away with the final three points as Brady would win at No. 2 6-2, 6-3, followed by Sherwood at No. 6 who would cruise 6-2, 6-2 and then L. Rockwood taking a three-setter 6-1, 2-6, 10-5 in the No. 3 slot.
