
REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team had to fight their way back from a 2-1 deficit Tuesday afternoon against No. 39 Chapman University sweeping singles to pull off the 7-2 win inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs end their three-match losing skid with the win and improve to 7-5, 3-3 SCIAC.
Kendall Bolock (Yucaipa, CA) and Olivia Rockwood (Park City, UT) picked up the first point for the Maroon and Grey at the top spot winning 8-2. But the Panthers were able to rally to grab the next two points at No. 2 and No. 3 to take an advantage. Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) fought in their match dropping a close tiebreaker 8-7 (4) and Mia Goldstein (Ann Arbor, MI) and Madison Sherwood (Las Vegas, NV) would get edged 8-6.
In singles it was a clean sweep, which was the first time this season this occurred. Bullock made quick work at No. 1 of A. Allyn 6-1, 6-1 that tied the match up and Brady followed quickly with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 putting UR on top 3-2. After that the wins continued to come with O'Brien taking her match at No. 4 in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 and Goldstein grabbing the clinch at No. 5 6-2, 6-4.
Sherwood needed a breaker in her opening set at No. 6, but was able to take it 7-6 (3) before rolling in the second 6-1. The last match on was L. Rockwood at No. 3 who played a full three sets and had to grind her way back from being down 5-3 in the third. But she found a way helping the Bulldogs grab the clean sweep 6-3, 0-6, 7-5.
Redlands hosts Occidental College with a SCIAC Tournament berth on the line this Saturday, April 15 beginning at 10:00am inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
