Redlands Women’s Tennis Dismisses No. 39 Grinnell 8-1

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team dismissed Grinnell College 8-1 at the Verdieck Tennis Center Saturday morning winning their third match in their last four, improving to 5-2, 1-0 SCIAC. 

The Bulldogs picked up all three wins in doubles and then came away with five of six singles matches.  The three UR teams gave up a combined eight games across the three matches led by Olivia Rockwood (Park City, UT) and Kendall Bolock (Yucaipa, CA) at the top spot winning 8-1.  Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) and Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) grabbed the second point winning 8-3 and Mia Goldstein (Ann Arbor, MI) and Madison Sherwood (Las Vegas, NV) grabbed an 8-4 decision at No. 3 picking up the sweep for the Maroon and Grey.

In singles Grinnell grabbed a victory at No. 3 due to Brady pulling out due to an injury.  She was trailing 6-5 in the first set, but was forced to retire.  But her teammates picked her up grabbing the next five points.  Bolock bageled her opponent Sabrina Tang, ranked No. 13 in Division III 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, L. Rockwood handled Manchanda 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, Sherwood rolled 6-0 in the opening set at No. 6, but needed a breaker in the second winning 7-6 (3), Goldstein grabbed a break in each set at No. 4 winning 6-3, 6-3 and O'Brien picked up the final point at No. 5 taking it 7-5, 6-7 (2), 10-4.

A side note regarding Grinnell Head Coach, Zack Hasenyager, he is a graduate from the University of Redlands '08 and coached with the Bulldogs from 2012-14.               

Redlands returns to the court next Tuesday, March 28 when they travel to take on Whittier College in a SCIAC match-up beginning at 3:00pm.
