No. 14 U of R Women's Tennis Opens SCIAC with 8-1 win over Cal Lutheran

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team opened up Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play Friday afternoon at the Verdieck Tennis Center rolling California Lutheran University 8-1.

The Bulldogs improve to 4-2, 1-0 SCIAC and were clicking on all cylinders sweeping doubles and then winning five straight singles matches to pick up the lopsided victory. 

Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) paired up together at No. 2 winning 8-4 to give UR their first point.  Kendall Bolock (Yucaipa, CA) and Olivia Rockwood (Park City, UT) grabbed the advantage at the top spot winning 8-5 and Mia Goldstein (Ann Arbor, MI) and Madison Sherwood (Las Vegas, NV) would give the Maroon and Grey the clean sweep after they pulled out an 8-7 (5) win at No. 3. 

In singles the dominance continued with Redlands rattling off five straight wins.  Goldstein found her rhythm early bageling her opponent in both sets winning 6-0, 6-0 and Brady and O'Brien each surrendered a combined four games in each of their matches winning 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-3, respectively.

L. Rockwood cruised at No. 2 winning 6-2, 6-2 and Sherwood grabbed the seventh point winning at No. 6 in straights 6-3, 6-2. 

The last match on was Bolock at the top spot and she faced a tough test with C. Bufkin dropping in two sets 6-3, 6-1 handing CLU their lone point on the day.     

Redlands has the night off before returning to the courts tomorrow, Saturday, March 25 when they take on Grinnell College beginning at 10:00am.
