U of R Women’s Tennis takes down No. 16 Bowdoin 5-4

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team bounced back after their 5-4 loss to Whitman a day prior to take down No. 16 Bowdoin College 5-4 at the Verdieck Tennis Center.

Similar to the match with the Blues the Bulldogs took two of three in doubles but this time around split singles action in order to come away with the victory. 

Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) led the afternoon off with a win at No. 2 rolling 8-3.  Karly Rojas (Poulsbo, WA) and Madison Sherwood (Las Vegas, NV) were paired up at No. 3 for the first time this season, but they would fall 8-4 allowing the Polar Bears to tie the match up.  The go-ahead point came down to the top spot with Kendall Bolock (Yucaipa, CA) and Olivia Rockwood (Park City, UT) who would take down Cara Hung and Jamilah Karah, the No. 9 ranked team in Division III 8-6 giving UR a 2-1 advantage.

In singles the Bulldogs continued to roll picking up the first two points thanks to Bolock at No. 1 who dominated 6-3, 6-1.  Brady followed at No. 3 and in similar fashion rolled 6-2, 6-2 moving the score to 4-1.  Redlands needed a point to pull off the win and they would get it two matches later at No. 2 from L. Rockwood would would take it 6-4, 6-2. 

Bowdoin would take the wins at 4-5-6 singles with two of the three going the distance.  O'Brien fell 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, Sherwood fell 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 5 and Rojas in her singles debut would drop a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 6.

Redlands returns to the courts Thursday, March 23 when they take on No. 13 Williams College beginning at 11:00am at the Verdieck Tennis Center.
