REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team suffered a tough loss recently against Whitman College falling 5-4 at the Verdieck Tennis Center, moving their record to 2-1.

Despite jumping out in front 2-1 after doubles the Bulldogs could not pick up the three points they needed in singles as they would see the Blues go 4-of-6 to take the upset victory.

Kendall Bolock (Yucaipa, CA) and Olivia Rockwood (Park City, UT) would take the opening set 8-3 at No. 1 putting a point on the board for UR.  The Blues came back to tie it at No. 3 as Mia Goldstein (Ann Arbor, MI) and Gabby Rockwood (Park City, UT) would fall 8-5.  The advantage would come down at No. 2 where sophomores Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) would pull out the 8-6 grind putting Redlands in front.

Brady would move the score to 3-1 thanks to a 6-2, 6-1 sweep at No. 3 singles.  O'Brien followed with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5 pulling the Bulldogs within a point of the win.  But after that it was all Whitman taking the next four matches.  Bolock would fall at No. 1 7-5, 6-2, Goldstein after dropping the opening set 6-0 would battle in the second at No. 4 only to fall 7-6 (3), Madison Sherwood (Las Vegas, NV) would also need a breaker in the second set but would hand Whitman their fourth point 6-2, 7-6 (3).  The decisive match came down to L. Rockwood at No. 2 who went the distance with A. Castellanos.  Rockwood won the opening set 6-4 but could not secure the win as they would fall 6-3, 6-3 over the next two allowing the Blues to come from behind.
