REDLANDS, Calif. – The Pete Yellico era as the Head Coach for Women's Tennis at the University of Redlands began Saturday against Point Loma Nazarene.

The Bulldogs managed to pick up a point from Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) at No. 3 singles, but it wasn't enough as the U of R fell 8-1 at the Verdieck Tennis Courts.

It was a tough match-up for the Maroon and Grey going up against a scholarship program, but they fought hard all afternoon.  The No. 2 doubles team of Mia Fitzgerald (Kilauea, HI) and Liv Rockwood (Park City, UT) would create a little pushback falling late 8-6, while the No. 1 and No. 3 teams fell 8-1 and 8-2, respectively allowing PLNU to go in front 3-0.

Brady earned the lone point in singles winning 7-5, 6-4 over Sepulveda.  L. Rockwood battled in her opening set at the top spot falling 6-4, but couldn't keep the momentum as she would get blanked in the second 6-0.  Lexi Lehman (Scottsdale, AZ) was a bright spot at No. 2 picking up five games but was swept 6-3, 6-3 against Friedrich.

Kendall Bolock (Yucaipa, CA) was moved into the No. 4 slot for singles and after getting broken once in the first set couldn't put together a comeback against Neilson falling 6-4, 6-2.

Fitzgerald faced a tough Letzring at No. 5 and out of the gates was in a hole early and was unable to climb her way out dropping in straights 6-1, 6-2.  Gabby Rockwood (Park City, UT) was the final Bulldog to compete at No. 6 and after getting broken in the opening frame 6-3, saw her opponent come away with the second 6-2.

Redlands returns to the courts this Wednesday, February 23 when they host Brandeis University beginning at 2:00pm.
