No. 29 Bulldog Women's Tennis Tops No. 33 Christopher Newport, 7-2

The No. 29 University of Redlands women's tennis team jumped back into the win column on Friday with a 7-2 victory over No. 33 Christopher Newport University (VA).  The Bulldogs snagged two of the doubles matches and then rolled through five of the six singles for the win.

The Maroon and Gray put the first point on the board when senior Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA) and junior Karen Kobayashi (Sappora, Japan) rolled to an 8-1 victory at the No. 2 spot. First-years Kendall Bolock (Yucaipa, CA) and Gabby Rockwood (Park City, UT) kept things going with an 8-5 win at No. 3.

Redlands held a 2-1 advantage as the match headed into singles.

Junior Lexi Lehman (Scottsdale, AZ) extended the lead with her efficient 6-1, 6-3 showing at No. 4, while first-year Olivia Rockwood (Park City, UT) followed suit at No. 1 with a 7-6 (3), 6-1 decision.

With a 4-1 lead, the Bulldogs put this one in the books when sophomore Mia Fitzgerald (Hanalei, HI) captured a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 2.

In addition, sophomore Halle Martinucci (Burlingame, CA) and Lacy recorded wins at Nos. 5 and 6. 

Redlands (2-1) returns to Verdieck Courts on Saturday, March 7, for a non-conference match against Hardin-Simmons University (TX) at 11 a.m.
