Dynamic Duo Earns All-SCIAC Women's Tennis Recognition for Redlands

It was announced earlier today that a talented duo from the University of Redlands women's tennis team collected All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) honors, as nominated by and voted upon the head coaches of the member institutions.  Freshman Sarah Ikioka (Wailuku, HI) landed on the First Team, while senior Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) garnered a Second-Team nod.

In her first season with the Maroon and Gray, Ikioka made an immediate impact as the team's No. 1 singles player.  She earned a 5-2 record against conference foes that is highlighted by a five-match win streak in final five matches.  In doubles, Ikioka joined forces with sophomore Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) and fired off a 7-2 mark in conference competition.  This also included a hot finish to the regular season, as demonstrated by the duo's 7-0 showing in the last seven matches.

Ikioka looks forward to representing the Bulldogs at the NCAA Individual Championships for Singles later this month.

Murnin gains back-to-back Second-Team nods with this year's accolade.  As the team's No. 2 singles player, she earned a 4-2 mark in SCIAC action.  She also contributed to the Bulldogs' doubles success by teaming up with freshman Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA) as a formidable No. 2 tandem that put together a 5-4 mark against conference competition.
