Tennis Standouts Natalie Etchegaray and Lauren Villanueva Qualify for NCAA Individual Championships

Earlier today, the NCAA announced that seniors Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) and Lauren Villanueva (El Segundo, CA) will represent the No. 19 University of Redlands women's tennis team at the 2016 NCAA Division III Individual Championships on May 26-28 at Kalamazoo College in Michigan.  Etchegaray is one of 32 singles qualifiers and will join forces with Villanueva to compete in the 16-team doubles draw.

Etchegaray earns back-to-back selections to the NCAA tournament after making her debut in 2015.  As the Bulldogs' top singles competitor throughout her final campaign, she put together a solid 18-4 record in dual-match action, as highlighted by 13 victories against players from nationally-ranked teams.  Currently, she is riding a 10-match unbeaten streak that dates back to March 23.  She also owns an undefeated mark in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition, which includes an upset-win over the then-No. 2 player in the region from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

In doubles, Etchegaray and Villanueva have been a formidable force that has earned a 15-7 overall record during the dual-match season as the Maroon and Gray's No. 1 team.  The tandem opened the season on a four-match winning streak and look forward to competing in the national doubles draw for the first time.  This marks Villanueva's first-ever appearance at the NCAA Individual Championships.

The singles and doubles draws will be posted on Wednesday, May 25.
