The No. 19 University of Redlands women's tennis team battled it out with Christopher Newport University (VA) on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference showdown.  While winning all six singles matches, the Bulldogs collected a solid 8-1 victory over the Captains to improve to 4-0 on the season.

The Maroon and Gray initiated the scoring with an impressive 8-1 win by the No. 2 doubles duo of junior Lauren Villanueva (El Segundo, CA) and senior Julia Pollak (Holland, PA).  The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead after the top tandem of senior Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) and junior Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) cruised to an 8-4 victory.

Although the Captains cut their deficit by prevailing at No. 3, Redlands rallied to sweep the singles matches, with all but one coming in straight sets.

Villanueva and Pollak repeated their triumphant trend from doubles by taking down their respective singles opponents at Nos. 5 and 6.  Villanueva stepped up with a 6-3, 6-1 victory, while Pollak registered a 6-1, 6-4 showing.

Leading 4-1 in the overall score, the Bulldogs looked to sophomore Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) to seal the deal with her 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3.

Redlands also gained positive outcomes from Sumida, Etchegaray, and junior Gabriela Vasquez (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA).

Redlands (4-0) hosts the No. 22 University of Mary Washington (VA) on Friday, March 6, at 2 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
