Bulldog Women’s Tennis Earns ITA’s Individual and Team Recognition for Academic Achievement

It was announced last week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) that the University of Redlands women's tennis program gained six Scholar-Athletes among the 2,566 individual honorees from all collegiate divisions and became one of 451 All-Academic Teams to be recognized as well.

In order to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, an individual must earn a varsity letter, maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the current academic year, and be enrolled at her current institution for at least two semesters.

Junior Alyssa Gilbert (Mukilteo, WA) headlines the Bulldogs' honorees by becoming a three-time Scholar-Athlete with the ITA. She looks forward to her final season with the Maroon and Gray as she finishes up her degree in Global Business during the 2015-16 academic year.

Senior Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI), senior Maddie Morton (Henderson, NV), junior Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA), and sophomore Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) find themselves on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list for the second time in their respective careers. They are joined by Redlands' first-time honoree freshman Claire Bohoskey (Yakima, WA). Sumida earned a degree in Communicative Disorders, while Morton completed her studies in Business Administration earlier this spring.

As a team, Redlands surpassed the minimum GPA requirement of 3.20 for the current academic year in order to receive this distinction from the ITA. The Bulldog women join five fellow Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) members on the ITA All-Academic Team list, which includes Caltech, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, the University of La Verne, and Whittier College.
