REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team kept their momentum going from their 2-1 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Wednesday night shutting out Caltech 2-0 inside Farquhar Field Saturday morning.

The Bulldogs have now won two in a row and improve to 2-3, 2-0 SCIAC.

Redlands scored both of their goals in the second half, with Julianna Ortega (Whittier, CA) scoring her first of the season off an assist from Natalie Turiace (San Dimas, CA). The second goal came four minutes later in the 61st when Avery Bergschneider (Denver, CO) finished with a header coming off a corner kick from Celine Akroush (Pasadena, CA).

In the first half, Tori Zielinski (Sunnyvale, CA) got the offense going with the first shot attempt, a look that forced a save in the seventh minute. A minute later Bergschneider had her shot stopped by a Caltech defender, which turned into UR's second corner kick.

Zielinski came back again in the 12th minute putting a shot on goal, but Caltech was able to make the stop to keep the game scoreless. Over the course of a minute and a half coming in the 29th and 30th minutes, the Bulldogs had a shot that went just high from Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA) along with a pair of corners.

The Bulldogs maintained their pressure with two shots and another corner in the 31st and 35th minutes as Peyton Fendrich (Clackamas, OR) put a shot on target, the fourth that forced a save from Caltech.

After Salinas got the first look on goal to start the second half, Ortega put the Maroon and Grey on top soon after, getting a through ball sent to her from Turiace following a steal, which she would muscle away from a Caltech defender before taking a shot, while falling to the ground.

Four minutes later the Bulldogs would capitalize on a corner kick, which was taken by Akroush.  She sent in the cross to the top of the 18-yard box and set up Bergschneider for a header that got underneath the foot of Fendrich and the keeper for a 2-0 lead.

Zielinski had one more shot on target, which led the team as the Bulldogs got the 2-0 win thanks to a dominant all-around second half.

The Bulldogs won all the key statistical categories with a plus 10 shot advantage (12-2), had six shots on-goal (6-0), and took four more corners (7-3).  Courtney Stewart (San Jose, CA) and Kaiah Mooradian (Fort Collins, CO) combined for the shutout between the posts never getting tested as the defensive unit held the Beavers to just two looks, neither one getting on frame.

Redlands looks to keep their winning streak intact as they travel to Occidental College on Wednesday, September 21 beginning at 7:00pm.
