LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team won their second straight game Saturday night shutting out the University of La Verne 1-0 to pick up a crucial three points within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Standings.

The Maroon and Grey improve to 4-5, 3-3 SCIAC, have now won three of their last four, and take the season sweep over the Leopards, shutting them out over the two games 3-0.

The Bulldogs got things started quickly with a corner in the first :54 seconds, which later led to a shot from Eva Vlassopoulos (Portland, Ore.) forcing the Leopard keeper into a save opportunity.  Malia Kuhl (Sammamish, Wash) then got into the mix at the 14:57 mark with a shot-on goal that was again saved by ULV.

After a pair of shots by Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA) and Peyton Fendrich (Clackamas, OR) in the 28th minute, Kuhl got off another this time connecting for the eventual game-winner, her second of the season off a Vlassopoulos assist.  Tristen Sherley (Novato, CA) looked like she would add insurance in the 35th minute getting off a shot from the top of the box, but her look would hit the crossbar.

ULV provided a scare at the end of the half earning a corner kick in the 37th minute, which led to a header shot going high from Shelbie Mueller.  Then with under a minute to play the Leopards got off another shot this time from Miranda McGarry, but her look would hit the crossbar keeping the game 1-0 at the break.

The second half started slowly with no action for the first five minutes.  Then in the 51st junior Taylor Pisan (Redmond, WA) got the offense going for UR putting a shot just wide of the goal.  She then came back fourteen minutes later and got off another shot, but this time it was saved by Saldivar.

The Bulldogs held tough defensively in the second half allowing just two shots and two corners.  They held the advantage on shots (12-5), shots on goal (9-2), and fouls drawn (15-7), while corners were tied at 3-3.

Kuhl, Vlassopoulos, Pisan, Sherley and Fendrich all had two shots for the game, with Kuhl, Vlassopoulos, and Fendrich putting all of their targets on frame.

Courtney Stewart (San Jose, CA) played all 45:00 minutes and collected two saves for her 4th win of the season.

Redlands looks to extend their winning streak on Monday, October 11 when they continue with their four-game road trip against Caltech beginning at 4:00pm.
