Redlands Women’s Soccer Sweeps SCIAC Weekly Awards

Brittany Dinkins and Hayley Romo secured the awards for athletes of the week on Sept. 24.

After a spectacular showing last week, the University of Redlands women's soccer team swept the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) weekly awards, as announced earlier today. Junior goalkeeper Brittany Dinkins (Renton, WA) became the SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week, while senior forward Hayley Romo (Port Orchard, WA) was named the SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week for September 17-23.

Defensively, Dinkins stepped up with two shutouts in three starts between the posts for three wins. In total, she made 11 saves on the week, including eight in a huge 1-0 shutout on the road against Chapman University. She then recorded another complete-game shutout against the University of La Verne on Wednesday.

Romo played a major role in the Bulldogs' undefeated week that landed them atop the SCIAC standings. In Monday's game against the Panthers, she provided the assist on the only goal of the game. She capped off the Maroon and Gray's excellent showing on the road by firing off two goals in a 3-1 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday. She scored her first goal in the first three minutes and then went on to score the eventual game-winner on a 35-yard strike over the goalkeeper's head.

Currently, the Bulldogs own 13 points on four wins and a tie to lead the SCIAC.
