U of R Women's Soccer Falls to Occidental College in Tight Match

The University of Redlands women's soccer team made the trek to Eagle Rock to square off against the Occidental College Tigers in an important Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match on Saturday evening.  After a tight first half, the Tigers found the back of the net and ultimately sent the Bulldogs home with a 0-1 loss.

In the 19th minute, senior goalkeeper Hannah Menk (Pleasanton, CA was tested by an Occidental shot but she came up with the save to keep the Tigers off the board.  Redlands carried this positive energy throughout the opening half and created scoring chances on three corner kicks, which led to a pair of shots by senior defender Erin Schlosser (Sammamish, WA).

Despite their quality looks at the opposing goal, the teams entered halftime in a scoreless stalemate.

The Tigers managed to put one through the posts in the 70th minute, forcing Redlands to play catch-up for the remainder of the game.

After another Menk save, the Bulldogs came roaring back to earn a corner kick, which created a scoring opportunity for junior midfielder Nicole Warnick (Upland, CA).  Her quality attempt forced the Occidental goalkeeper to make the save in the 76th minute.

As the Tigers continued to press, Redlands worked to counter in the offensive third, earning a pair of late-game corner kicks.  One such opportunity came within inches of the equalizer but time ran out on the Bulldogs' comeback effort.

Redlands (7-6, 4-6 SCIAC) heads to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Wednesday, October 18, for a 4 p.m. SCIAC contest against the Sagehens.
