The University of Redlands women's soccer team faced off against the No. 21 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Farquhar Field in Wednesday night's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match. The Bulldogs battled the conference-leading foes but came up short in a 0-2 decision.

Only four minutes into the first frame, junior midfielder Shayla Funk (Fremont, CA) blasted off a bullet of a shot, but it was right at the Sagehen goalie.

In the 28th minute, Pomona-Pitzer was successful in netting a score, which forced the Bulldogs to pick up the pace.

Two great chances came in the 43rd minute, as sophomore defender Louisa Alstot (Portland, OR) served up two picturesque corner kicks, but to no avail.

The Bulldogs entered the second half with determination in their eyes, as sophomore forward Adi Fellows (Albuquerque, NM) unleashed a shot only 46 seconds in, but it went high.

In the 59th minute, Pomona-Pitzer slotted its second goal, requiring Redlands to play with even more urgency. The Maroon and Gray fired off five more shots in the final 30 minutes but the Sagehen defense refused to surrender a goal.

The Bulldog backline of senior Faith Campbell (Bainbridge Island, WA), junior Erin Schlosser (Sammamish, WA), sophomores Molly Boyle (Bend, OR) and Alstot, and freshman Gabriela Cavazos (Riverside, CA) blocked or quickly cleared many of the Sagehens' shots. Junior goalkeeper Hannah Menk (Pleasanton, CA) finished the night with seven saves, while freshman forward Hanya Loskutoff (Dublin, CA) led the team in shots by taking three.

Bulldog women's soccer (3-12-1, 2-10-1 SCIAC) looks forward to competing in the friendly confines of Farquhar Field again on Saturday, October 29, when the team will celebrate Senior Day against the Occidental College Tigers.  Game time is slotted for 4 p.m.
