The University of Redlands women's soccer team took to the road on Wednesday night for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown at Occidental College.  After a scoreless first half for both teams, the Tigers managed two scores midway through the second stanza.  Although freshman midfielder Bria Bowton (Spokane, WA) found the back of the net for the first time in her young career, it was not enough to complete the comeback, as the Maroon and Gray headed home with a 1-2 loss.

During the opening frame, the Tigers created more scoring chances but the Bulldogs' defensive unit of senior Sammie Burghardt (Gig Harbor, WA), senior Faith Campbell (Bainbridge Island, WA), junior Erin Schlosser (Sammamish, WA), and freshman Gabriela Cavazos (Riverside, CA) worked to keep the home team off the board through the first 45 minutes.  Junior goalkeeper Hannah Menk (Pleasanton, CA) also produced a clean sheet as Redlands' last line of defense, making one save in the process.

The second half saw great success on the offensive front by both squads, as the Bulldogs upped their shots to six attempts and earned four corner kicks by the end of the game.

Unfortunately for the Maroon and Gray, the Tigers registered a pair of scores in a 10-minute span, adding to the urgency to the final part of the second half.

However, Redlands refused to go away and finally found the break-through when Bowton took her only shot of the game in the 90th minute, which flew past the Oxy goalkeeper for the Bulldog goal.  But time simply ran out on the visitors, resulting in the 1-2 loss.

Redlands (2-7-1, 1-5-1 SCIAC) returns home to the friendly confines of Farquhar Field on Saturday, October 8, for a 7 p.m. SCIAC match against the Cal Lutheran University Regals.
