Senior Becky Willis Ties Assist Record, Bulldog Women’s Soccer Wins 3-0

Senior midfielder Becky Willis (Escondido, CA) put her name among the greatest that have ever played for the University of Redlands women’s soccer team as she tallied her eighth assist of the season against Occidental College on Oct. 25, tying the program record for single-season assists, which Marissa Santa Cruz ’98 set in 1996.

Redlands went on to win the match by a 3-0 score, avenging a loss to the Tigers from earlier this season.

Freshman midfielder Jaimie Morton (Boise, ID) had a standout game, recording a goal and an assist. Both the assist and the goal proved the first of her Bulldog career in each category, showcasing her talents with the best of the young crop of soccer talents on the team.

Morton’s persistence paid off in the 36th minute as she took a shot that was saved by Tiger goalkeeper Robin Feldman, collected the rebound and fired a ball to the back of the net for the first goal of the match.

In the 72nd minute, freshman forward Kaily Benenati (Denver, CO) put the Bulldogs up 2-0 when she capitalized on a crisp pass by Willis and snuck a ball past Feldman.

Finally, sophomore forward Ashley MacHolda (Minnetonka, MN) closed out the game’s scoring when she scored on a chip shot that flew over Feldman’s head and into the net. MacHolda, who also notched her first goal of the season, scored off of a Morton feed.

Defensively, the Bulldogs had a stellar outing, holding the Tigers to eight total shots. Junior goalkeeper Tenley Rawlings (Salt Lake City, UT) recorded four saves and earned the shutout.

Feldman stopped nine shots fired at her but surrendered all three goals scored.

Redlands (11-4-1, 7-3) travels to Cal Lutheran University on Wednesday, Oct. 29 for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
