Redlands Women's Lacrosse picks up first SCIAC win over Cal Lutheran 16-6

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (3-5, 1-4) picked up their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) win of the season as they handled visiting California Lutheran University (CLU) 16-6 at Farquhar Field Saturday morning despite facing tough conditions with the rain and wet grass.  

The Regals picked up the first goal of the game at the 12:20 mark of the first quarter, but Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) started a 4-0 Bulldog run at the 11:41 mark as Redlands moved the score to 4-1 with 8:37 on the clock. After Webster's goal, Cailin Walker (Portland, OR), Jenna Bradford (Anaheim, CA), and Mallory Morrissey (Coronado, CA) all scored with Morrissey also adding an assist on Bradford's connection.  

Over the final 1:32 of the first, Walker and webster each scored their second of the game and Natalie Schumann (Murrieta, CA) netted her first of the morning on a free position opportunity as the score moved to 7-2 after 15 minutes.

The 3-0 run by UR to end the first was extended to eight unanswered in the first eight plus minutes of the second as the lead grew to double digits, 12-2. Catie Ramicone (Countryside, IL) added a goal and an assist to and Walker and Webster each recorded their hat tricks. At the break it was a 12-3 Bulldog lead.

In the second half the Maroon and Grey continued with their strong defensive prowess holding the Regals to only one goal in the first 23 minutes as they were able to take a commanding 16-4 lead. Webster added three more goals to her total that brought her to six. Walker added a goal and assist and Jacqueline Landucci (San Mateo, CA) set up Webster on her first goal of the half. A couple of late consolation goals made the final score 16-6.

Webster finished with six goals and an assist, Emma Beaver (Bend, OR) had 10 draw controls and two ground balls. Overall, seven different players contributed to a goal with Bradford, Walker, Webster, Ramicone, Schumann, Landucci, and Morrissey all contributing to multi-goals. Nicole Hutten (Hinsdale, IL) had four saves between the posts as she won her second game of the season.

Redlands finished the game with 28 shots, 18 draw controls, 19 groundballs, was 6-for-12 on clears and 4-of-7 on free-positions.  

The Bulldogs will take a quick break from conference action with a home matchup with St. Mary's (Indiana) on Wednesday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Farquhar Field.
