SEWANEE, Tenn. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team ended their trip to Sewanee, TN with a 13-10 win over Albion College coming back to the West Coast with a split on the week.

The Bulldogs improve to 2-4, 0-3 SCIAC and have ended their four-game losing skid following the win over the Britons.  First-year Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) had a career game posting six goals on seven shots along with a couple of groundballs, a draw control and a caused turnover.  Fellow first-year Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) completed another hat-trick on the season finishing with three goals.  She has now scored three or more goals in four of the six games this season.

"This is a very young team and this week was about challenging ourselves to become closer and to have more awareness on and off the field," explained Head Coach Suzette Soboti.  "The team has been working on building trust and learning from one another.  These two games have given us a great experience to grow as a team.  Sewanee and Albion were great opponents who challenged us in so many positive ways.  Having ten first-years on the team means every game they are being exposed to something new.  The team took some big steps towards success on this trip and obtained a level equal to the potentials they hold as individuals and as a team."

Walker and Natalie Schumann (Murrieta, CA) put UR on top 2-1 over the course of the first six minutes.  But this lead would go away as Albion would score three of the next four goals across the final eight minutes to take a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.  Walker added her second of the game at the 6:47 mark that tied the game up.

It was a defensive effort for the Maroon and Grey in the second period outscoring the Britons 3-1.  First-Year Jenny Quinonez Diaz (Menlo Park, CA) got the scoring started deadlocking the game at 4-4 with 13:14 left. Albion answered on their next possession but that would be the last lead they would hold as Walker would tally two more connections across the final two minutes to give Redlands a 6-5 advantage heading into the break.

A combined seven goals were scored in the third quarter with UR holding a slight 4-3 advantage.  Albion converted a free-position to start the period that evened the game at 6-6, but after that it was all Bulldogs scoring four of the next five goals to go in front 10-7.  During the run Webster added three goals, one on a free-position and another being a player-up.  The other goal came from Jacqueline Landucci (San Mateo, CA) who scored with 4:49 left.

Redlands added much needed insurance with the first two goals of the fourth quarter with Walker finishing a free-position and then adding her sixth of the game two minutes later.  Albion mounted a comeback with two goals to make it a two-score game, but over the final ten minutes the Bulldogs held the Britons scoreless while adding another tally, this time from Jenna Bradford (Anaheim, CA) who put away a free-position goal helping the U of R secure the road win.

The Bulldogs outshot Albion 32-22, picked up 13 draw controls, was 3-for-9 on free positions, added 26 groundballs and forced 24 turnovers on the Britons.

Nicole Hutten (Hinsdale, Ill.) played all 60:00 minutes between the posts finishing with seven saves against 17 shots.  She also had three groundballs.  Bradford and Landucci combined for 11 draw controls, Emma Beaver (Bend, OR) and Nina Davis (Bainbridge Island, WA) each posted three caused turnovers and Davis finished with a game high six groundballs.

Redlands now sets their sights on an away SCIAC match-up with Whittier College next Wednesday, March 8 beginning at 7:00pm.
