Bulldog Women's Lacrosse Showcases Young Talent in Shutout over Mountaineers in season opener

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team made a statement in their 2023 season opener Tuesday night rolling 24-0 over Eastern Oregon University.

The 24 tallies posted ties for the third most team goals in a single game in program history as the Maroon and Grey improve to 1-0.   

In the first two minutes of the game Emma Beaver (Bend, OR) made her return to the program with a pair of goals. Jacqueline Landucci (San Mateo, CA) then scored at the 10:35 mark to make it 3-0 as Mallory Morrissey (Coronado, CA) added her second assist of the game.

Morrissey would end the quarter with a goal as she finished her first collegiate quarter with a goal and three assists leading the U of R to a 9-0 start.

In the second period the Bulldogs were able to tack on another six goals. Jenna Bradford (Anaheim, CA) got her brace with her second finish, Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) scored two more times in the quarter as she took four goals into the break of her first collegiate game.

First-year Natalie Schumann (Murrieta, CA) recorded her second collegiate goal and first assist on a Landucci goal with only four seconds remaining in the third quarter as UR took a 20-0 lead into the final 15 minutes.

In the final quarter Webster, Schumann, Cailin Walker (Portland, OR), and Landucci all scored to complete the lopsided victory.

Overall, the Bulldogs had eight different goal scorers with Bradford (2), Beaver (3), Walker (2), Webster (6), Schumann (3), and Landucci (5) all posting multi-goal performances.

In goal the Bulldogs used three keepers, Zoe Charum (Glendale, CA)Briahna Guadamuz (San Jacinto, CA), and Alyssa Ashley (Vista, CA). Charum started and played 15 minutes with one save, Guadamuz played the second and third quarters, making one save, and Ashley played the final 15 minutes with two saves.

Adding to the record of the third most single-game team goals is Landucci who had 11 draw controls won, tying her for the second most in a single-game in program history.

As a team the Bulldogs outshot the Mountaineers 41-4, picked up 14 groundballs, had 23 draw controls, was 2-for-4 on free-position goals and was 6-for-7 on clear attempts.   

The Bulldogs will head to No. 22 Pomona-Pitzer this Saturday, February 18 with an 11:00 a.m. start time in Claremont, CA as Redlands looks to start Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play strong.
