REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team held a 4-2 lead against DePauw University Wednesday night in their final non-conference game of 2022, but was unable to hold the advantage falling 12-11, despite putting together a late comeback.

Redlands drops to 3-6, 2-3 SCIAC, while DePauw improves to 6-1, 1-0 Conf.

Sydney Louie (Lafayette, CA) opened the game's scoring with a free position goal at the 13:14 mark of the first quarter. After allowing two DePauw goals, Maeve Wiencek (Sherwood, OR) sparked three unanswered for UR scoring off a free position attempt before Celine Flaig (Redondo Beach, CA) added a pair in the final four minutes to give the Bulldogs a 4-2 advantage. The two goals from Flaig were setup by senior Joren Fettig (Bend, OR) who returned for her first game of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

It was a slow second quarter for the Maroon and Grey offensively getting outscored 4-1 by the Tigers, which gave them a 6-5 lead at the half.  The lone tally for the Bulldogs coming from Flaig who completed the hat trick with 1:16 left off a free position goal.

A combined three goals were scored in the third quarter with Redlands holding a 2-1 advantage.  Flaig tacked on her fourth of the game that tied the game up and Maddie Bush (Ladera Ranch, CA) converted with a power-play situation that deadlocked the game again this time at 7-7.

The real fireworks came in the fourth where there was plenty of offense.   Nine total goals were scored with DePauw holding that slight edge 5-4.  Wiencek put UR up quickly on their first possession but the Tigers were quick to respond stringing together four straight that put them on top by three (11-8).  The Bulldogs, though, were resilient and swung the momentum back cutting the deficit to two :37 seconds later from Bush and Erin Steinhour (Poway, CA) followed with her first of the game making it a one score margin with 7:09 left.  Over the next five minutes the defense proved tough on both sides until DePauw was able to break through with the eventual game-winning goal at the 2:10 mark.  Louie was able to cut the lead to one after knocking down a free-position goal, and despite winning the ensuing draw control the Bulldogs were unable to get a shot off as DePauw would hold on for the road victory.

Redlands finished with 24 groundballs, was 13-for-18 on clear attempts, won 10 draw controls, took 23 shots, and was 4-for-10 on free-positions.

Flaig continues her great season with four goals, three draw controls, three caused turnovers and four ground balls, Casey Lynch (Pittsburgh, PA) had a team-high five groundballs, Fettig added two assists, Steinhour posted a goal and two groundballs, Wiencek with two goals, two groundballs, Louie with two goals, one assist, three groundballs, and Bush with two goals, one groundball all found their way on to the score sheet.

In goal Charlie Baum (Hesperia, CA) faced 21 shots and made nine saves.

Redlands travels to Cal Lutheran for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game next Wednesday, April 6 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
