CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team opened up Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play Saturday night falling to Pomona-Pitzer 21-6.

The Maroon and Grey drop to 0-2, 0-1 SCIAC, while Pomona-Pitzer improves to 2-0, 2-0 SCIAC.

Senior Maddie Bush (Ladera Ranch, CA) completed the hat trick on the night with a goal coming in the second quarter and the other two in the second half.  After falling behind 7-0 over the first five and a half minutes the Bulldogs finally got on the scoreboard with back-to-back tallies from Maeve Wiencek (Sherwood, OR) and Sasha Charrier (Austin, TX) within a minute of each other.  Those would be the only two goals put up across the first fifteen minutes as PP would increase their lead to 13-2 midway through the 2nd Quarter.  The six unanswered would be stopped by Bush at the 6:21 mark getting fed by Wiencek.  But again the Sagehens had an answer adding another two right before the break increasing their lead to 15-3.

Bush added the lone goal in the 3rd Quarter for the Bulldogs coming at 6:11, as PP moved the score to 19-4.  Then across the final 15:00 minutes UR was able to tack on another two from Casey Lynch and Bush but the deficit was too much to overcome as Redlands fell 21-6.

The Maroon and Grey were outshot 31-14, picked up eight groundballs, was 7-of-14 on clears and totaled five saves, four of which came from Zoe Charum (Glendale, CA), who played the second half.

Along with Bush, Wiencek had a strong game with a goal and two assists, Celine Flaig (Redondo Beach, CA) totaled three groundballs and Alison Waddles (Long Beach, CA) added a groundball and forced two turnovers.

Redlands returns to the field next Thursday, March 3 in a non-conference match-up with Aurora University beginning at 7:00pm.
