The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team opened its Spring Break trip with an exciting 17-16 victory over Guilford College (NC) earlier today, with freshman attack player Dulce Moll (Mercer Island, WA) firing off the game-winner with seven seconds left on the clock. 

With the score tied at 16 apiece, freshman goalkeeper Gigja Hollyday (Aliso Viejo, CA) came up with a huge sage, turning away the Quakers at a critical juncture with just over four minutes remaining in the second half.

The teams then traded possessions on turnovers during the next few minutes, before a series of fouls against Guilford gave the visitors a slight edge on the field.  One foul resulted in a free-position attempt for the Maroon and Gray, but the shot flew high over the cross bar. 

However, the Bulldogs recovered the loose ball and then successfully orchestrated one final shot, as sophomore midfielder Stephanie Garrett (San Diego, CA) found Moll for the game-winning goal with seven ticks left on the clock.

After Guilford had dominated the draw controls throughout the game, Redlands' senior attack player/midfielder KK McCaslin (Portland, OR) pulled in the ensuing one to dissuade any chance of a last-second score by the Quakers.

Earlier in the game, Redlands recovered from a slight deficit with a five-goal outburst to put the team up by a score of 7-3.  McCaslin uncorked a hat trick during this stretch, which covered about seven minutes of the game.  This trio of scores came off of well-placed passes from Garrett, senior midfielder Jacky Craycraft (Trabuco Canyon, CA), and senior attack player Allie Hoffler (Draper, UT).

Although the Quakers answered with a 3-1 run, the Bulldogs enjoyed another scoring spree late in the first half to take a 12-6 lead with 2:28 left on the clock.  Craycraft capped off the offensive showing with a pair of netters in a 15-second span.

Nonetheless, Guilford continued to fight, mustering a hat trick to close out the period with only a three-goal deficit.

During the second stanza, the Bulldogs locked down their defense to hold the opponents scoreless for the first nine minutes of action.  On the other end of the field, Redlands successfully extended its advantage to 14-9 with unassisted goals by Moll and Craycraft.

Minutes later, the Quakers had cut their hole to four goals, but the Maroon and Gray appeared to be in control with a 16-12 lead.

However, the home team rallied for four-straight goals over the course of seven minutes while shutting out the Bulldogs.  This led to the knotted score and exciting finish between these first-time women's lacrosse opponents.

Overall, McCaslin, Moll, and Craycraft accounted for all but four of the Maroon and Gray's 17 goals, while Garrett provided three scores and four assists in the victory.

Hollyday came up big between the pipes, registering 10 saves for the Bulldogs.  Defensively, Garrett and junior defender Robin Taylor (Poway, CA) provided two caused turnovers, while sophomore midfielder Sam Keary (Mission Viejo, CA) picked up a team-high three ground balls.

Redlands (5-2) heads to Virginia to face Christopher Newport University on Wednesday at 3 p.m. EST.  Fans may follow the action via live statistics and web streaming.
