Bulldog Women's Lacrosse Faces Pomona-Pitzer in Saturday's Semifinal Game of the 2013 SCIAC Championship Tournament

The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team opens the 2013 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday with a semifinal match-up against first-round winner Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.  The teams look forward to battling it out on Farquhar Field at 7:30 p.m, with the winner advancing to the final on May 4.

General admission to Saturday's game is $5.  SCIAC personnel and students are free with current school ID.  Children 12 years of age and under are also admitted for free.

No pets are allowed at the field.

In addition, fans may follow the excitement through live stats and video streaming.

Redlands (13-4, 9-1 SCIAC) enters the regular-season event as the top seed, having captured nine wins in 10 games against conference foes.  In addition, the Bulldogs are riding a six-game win streak, which dates back to March 29 with an 18-9 victory over in-region foe, Colorado College.  The Maroon and Gray has fired off 96 netters during this stretch while earning a goal-differential of 7.3 goals per game.

The Bulldogs boast six players with 30 or more points, with junior midfielder Jacky Craycraft (Trabuco Canyon, CA) leading the team with 67, which include 53 goals and 14 assists.  She also contributes to the three-player crew that corrals the majority of Redlands' draw controls with 52.  Senior midfielder Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) pulls in a team-high 65 draw controls while also offering a well-balanced attack of 20 goals and 25 assists.

Graduate student Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) serves as Redlands' primary shot-stopper with 102 saves and a goals-against-average of 9.42.

Pomona-Pitzer (11-7, 6-5 SCIAC) advances to Saturday's semifinal game after edging cross-town rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in triple overtime during last night's opening round.  The Sagehens trailed early and clawed their way back to tie it up at 10 apiece with 5:39 remaining in the second half.  The teams then traded goals through the end of regulation and into the first two extra stanzas.  But Pomona-Pitzer finally got the sudden-victory score when Katie Savino provided a pivotal defensive play, which led to Jana London's game-winner with 1:28 left in the period.

London heads up the Sagehen scoring with 81 points on the season, coming in the form of 69 goals and 12 assists.  Logan Galansky patrols the draw-control circle with a team-leading 60.

Casey Leek protects the Pomona-Pitzer cage, having amassed nearly 1100 minutes in 18 games this season.  She boasts 153 saves with a 9.99 goals-against-average.

The SCIAC Championship Tournament is part of the regular season for women's lacrosse, with each round providing points to determine the 2013 SCIAC Champion.  The teams each gain one point for a win during head-to-head competition, and then one point for a first-round win, three points for a semifinal win, two points for a semifinal loss, five points for a final win, and four points for a final loss.

The championship game takes place on Saturday, May 4, at the site of the highest remaining seed.  This week's second semifinal includes host Occidental College and first-round victor Chapman University in a 10 a.m. showdown.
